Frequently asked questions

We get asked a lot of questions, so here are the ones we hear the most. Can't find what you're looking for? Get in touch and we'll help.

Yorkshire Canine Academy is a dog training centre based in Eccup, Leeds, specialising in reactivity and behaviour work. The site covers 3 acres with an indoor training arena, consultation rooms and a covered outdoor space. The team has worked with more than 3,000 dogs across 130+ breeds, and trainers are First Aid trained, fully insured and Dog Behaviour Accredited.

We are based in Eccup, Leeds, LS16 8AZ. We work with dogs from all over the UK and further afield, having had clients travel from Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands.

We don't offer puppy classes; however, our training is suitable for all dogs above the age of 6 months.

Yes, we train all dogs over the age of 6 months. We specialise in dogs with issues surrounding reactivity and have worked with dogs as old as 11 before.

All breeds, sizes and temperaments. Our team has trained more than 130 breeds to date, and plans are built around the individual dog's behaviour and learning style rather than breed alone.

Yes, this is our speciality. Reactivity toward people, other dogs, vehicles or other triggers is addressed throughout our training and then tested in real-life scenarios, giving you the utmost confidence when you return home.

Yes. We work with all types of dogs and any number of behavioural issues, assessed individually before training begins.

We run a 5-day bootcamp, Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm. This may not seem like enough time to fix the issues you're having with your dog, but we are so confident in our approach that you don't have to pay us at the end of the week if it hasn't worked. We have, and are very proud of, a 100% success rate at getting each and every dog to the pub come Friday of our bootcamp.

No, our clients come from all over the UK and sometimes even further afield. We also have a remote programme that has been successful for clients all over the world.

Training isn't limited to one method or quadrant of operant conditioning; the approach is set per dog, rather than applied as a single fixed system. Our programmes include the use of tools. These are introduced and explained rather than used as a default, and always at the owner's discretion.

Recall training forms part of all our programmes and progresses from controlled, low-distraction environments to busier, more distracting, real-world settings as reliability improves.

Yes. Loose lead walking is one of the most common training goals, and both dog and owner are coached together so it holds up on ordinary walks, not just in session.

The consultation covers your dog's behaviour, history and background, and the relationship between dog and owner. It's also a chance to see the centre and meet the team before a bespoke curriculum is set, and it determines which of the base services or courses is the right starting point.

Your dog, and anything you'd normally bring on a walk.

Yes, and this matters for results. Our 5-day bootcamp is a completely hands-on experience for owners. Training is significantly more effective when you become the handler yourself; your dog learns new boundaries from you rather than a trainer, which makes the transition home a lot smoother.

Payments start from £500. PayPal Pay in 3 is available for all training programmes, allowing you to spread the cost over three months.

No. Our bootcamp is structured in such a way that we give individual attention to each owner and dog before integrating them within a group setting. This means we can achieve results quickly by working in the absence of triggers, while having access to a group setting when the dog and owner are ready.

Yes. We have worked with thousands of anxious dogs, building confidence through controlled positive experiences.

Yes. Graduates can continue with socialisation class, life-skills class and our graduate pack walks. Support continues past the end of a formal course whenever you need it.

We back our training so much that we only ask for a £500 deposit to secure your place on a bootcamp. If we don't fix your dog's behavioural problems by the end of the 5 days, you don't pay us a penny more. Combined with our specialism in reactivity, over 3,000 dogs trained across 130+ breeds, and a 5-star Google rating, we provide more real-life proof that we're good at what we do than most trainers can.
